PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) – Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is missing the start of training camp after failing his conditioning test.
Coach Doug Marrone provided the update on Sunday, before the Bills’ first practice in suburban Rochester. Marrone said trainers will work with Dareus to get him in shape so that he can be cleared for practice as soon as possible.
Marrone declined to say whether he’s disappointed, but added he preferred his players reported for camp ready to go.
Dareus was placed on the active/non-football injury list Saturday. It’s the latest offseason setback for the 2011 first-round draft pick.
He faces drug possession charges in Alabama after being arrested in May. Four weeks later, he was charged with reckless endangerment after crashing his 2012 Jaguar during an alleged car race outside Buffalo.
