NEW ORLEANS (AP) – It was a lofty goal for a 40-year-old mother of two, but she reached it. Kriste Lewis of Hattiesburg, Mississippi has been selected by the New Orleans Saints as a cheerleader on the NFL team’s dance team.
Kriste Lewis says she never thought she’d make the Saintsations because the vast majority of NFL cheerleaders are much younger than she is.
Lewis is one of only two NFL dancers in the 40-plus age group, and she’s the oldest ever to audition for the Saintsations.
Something else sets her athletic achievement apart. She has a debilitating kidney disease that will eventually lead to dialysis and a kidney transplant.
