FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -The New England Patriots have opened minicamp without disgruntled Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins.
Mankins told ESPN Boston on Monday that he was upset with contract talks and wants to be traded. Mankins did not accept the team’s tender offer of $3.268 million by the deadline of 11:59 p.m. on Monday.
His agent, Frank Bauer, did not return a phone call seeking comment Tuesday.
Coach Bill Belichick refused to comment on the situation. He said Tuesday that he only would talk about players who are in the minicamp, which ends Thursday. He declined to say whether Mankins had told the team directly that he wants to be traded.
The five-year veteran from Fresno State was chosen as a Pro Bowl starter last season. It was the second time he was picked for the game.
