METAIRIE, La. (AP) -Greg Paulus is getting a second look in his second sport.
The former Duke point guard who spent last year as Syracuse’s starting quarterback was invited for a second tryout with the New Orleans Saints during the Super Bowl champions’ minicamp this weekend.
The Saints haven’t offered Paulus a contract yet and the undrafted rookie may not be back for training camp if New Orleans signs a veteran free agent to compete for a backup role behind Drew Brees.
Paulus is working behind Brees, Chase Daniel and seventh-round draft choice Sean Canfield. Paulus says that if he doesn’t catch on with the Saints, having a chance to learn from coach Sean Payton and Brees, who was last year’s Super Bowl MVP, will have been worth it.
