FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -Michael Vick is going for a new image. He hopes his new haircut is a start.
Vick, who has worn his long hair in braids since proclaiming in 2004 he wouldn't get a haircut until he won the Super Bowl with the Atlanta Falcons, showed up for offseason workouts Thursday with a new short natural cut.
Vick wasn't talking, but team spokesman Reggie Roberts said the decision was part of Vick's resolve for a clean start in 2007.
``The guy is making some changes, not only in his personal life but in his business,'' Roberts said.
``I really feel he is doing some things that are going to help him professionally and personally.''
Falcons coach Bobby Petrino applauded the new look, saying Vick looks younger.
``He looks good,'' Petrino said. ``I like it. He's got a big smile on his face and a nice haircut.''
The Falcons and the NFL are monitoring the ongoing investigation into whether Vick's property in Virginia was part of a dog fighting operation.
A prosecutor investigating the case, County Commonwealth's Attorney Gerald G. Poindexter, said Wednesday there is evidence linking Vick to dogfighting, which is a felony in Virginia.
Poindexter said informants ``are volunteering to make those allegations'' that Vick was involved in dogfighting.
Police conducting a drug investigation raided the house Vick owns in rural Surry County on April 25 and found 66 dogs, 55 of them pit bulls. They also found items associated with dog fighting, including a ``pry bar'' used to pry apart a dog's jaws.
No charges have been filed in the case.
Vick, a registered dog breeder, has blamed relatives for taking advantage of his generosity and insisted he was rarely at the house. Vick has since put the home on the market and sold it in a day, although the sale has not yet been completed.
