HOUSTON (AP) -The Houston Texans get back to football and look to move on from Brian Cushing’s drug suspension when offseason practices begin Monday.
Though the linebacker is suspended for the first four games of the season, he can participate in all offseason practices and activities and is expected to be on the field Monday.
General manager Rick Smith says the team has to learn how to deal with unexpected situations like this one and work through them.
The Texans finished 9-7 in 2009 for their first winning record. This season could be the most important for a franchise that still hasn’t made the playoffs entering its ninth year. Now they’ll be without one of their best defensive players in games against Indianapolis, Washington, Dallas and Oakland.
