FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -Kris Jenkins is feeling good these days, even though the New York Jets nose tackle has revealed he’s tipping the scales at 390 pounds – 30 more than his listed playing weight.
Jenkins is recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee, but says Thursday he plans to be ready for minicamp next month. He says he hopes to lose 15 pounds by the time the three-day session begins, an amount he’s confident he’ll be able to drop.
He’s also excited about being involved in a weight-loss challenge started by coach Rex Ryan. Jenkins, Ryan and offensive tackle Damien Woody will compete to see who loses the most weight by training camp. Jenkins says his overall goal is to lose 45 pounds by the time the team heads to Cortland, N.Y.
