MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (AP) – Ex-NFL player and current New Jersey congressional candidate Jon Runyan wants the skeletons in his closet to be revealed by him, not by his political opponents.
Runyan told reporters unprompted on Wednesday he was late on some property tax payments and has been sued in a couple of business deals.
The former Philadelphia Eagles lineman is a Republican political neophyte running to represent New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District.
He’s not the first politician to report his own flaws before his opponents could. President Barack Obama gave details of his past drug use in a book. And New York Gov. David Paterson admitted to a newspaper he and his wife had affairs.
Runyan faces Justin Murphy in next month’s primary. The winner will take on Democratic incumbent John Adler in November.
