NEW YORK (AP) -Lawrence Taylor’s football career was spectacular, including an MVP award and two Super Bowl victories with the New York Giants. He is arguably the best defender the NFL has ever seen.
But even while he was playing in the 1980s he had off-the-field problems. Charged on Thursday with third-degree rape and patronizing a prostitute, Taylor was suspended for 30 days by the NFL for testing positive for cocaine in 1988.
There have been a trickle of cases against him since then.
Before this week’s charges, Taylor was cited three times in Florida over the last six months alone for infractions on the road.
