INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Indianapolis Colts signed 21 undrafted rookies and waived four players Monday, including center-guard Khaled Holmes.
The moves come two days after Indy used four of its eight draft picks on offensive linemen.
Holmes was a fourth-round selection in 2013 and made 12 career starts, three in the playoffs. He was one of the five starting centers that Andrew Luck worked with during his career, a revolving door the Colts hope will end after they chose Alabama center Ryan Kelly with the No. 18 overall pick in the draft.
Indy also released tight end Cameron Clear, long snapper Forrest Hill and offensive tackle Mitchell Van Dyk – all free agents signed this offseason. Van Dyk was on the Steelers’ injured reserve list in 2015.
A few hours later, the Colts announced they had signed rookie running back Josh Ferguson and five receivers who were not drafted last weekend.
Ferguson finished second in school history with 4,474 all-purpose yards, rushed for 2,586 yards and 18 TDs in his career and was considered one of the best rookie free agents available.
The Colts also could use depth at receiver and hope to find someone among the group they signed Monday – Purdue’s Danny Anthrop, Maryland’s Marcus Leak, Cincinnati’s MeKale McKay, Grambling’s Chester Rogers and Iowa’s Tevaun Smith.
Indy also signed defensive ends Sterling Bailey of Georgia and Delvon Simmons of Southern California; offensive linemen Isiah Cage of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Davante Harris of Appalachian State and Adam Redmond of Harvard; tight ends Darion Griswold of Arkansas State and Mike Miller of Taylor; defensive backs Daniel Davie of Nebraska, Stefan McClure of California, Christopher Milton of Georgia Tech, Darius White of California and Andrew Williamson of Vanderbilt and linebackers Curt Maggitt of Tennessee, Andrew Sarao of Southern California and Ronald Thompson of Syracuse.
