METAIRIE, La. (AP) – The New Orleans Saints have selected Tennessee-Chattanooga outside linebacker Davis Tull with the first of their two fifth-round picks in the NFL draft.
The 6-foot-2, 246-pound Tull has been named Southern Conference defensive player of the year three times.
During his senior season in 2014, Tull was credited with 18 tackles for losses and 10 1/2 sacks. He’s had 37 sacks and 60 tackles for losses in his career in college football’s Division I Football Championship Subdivision.
Tull is the fourth defensive player taken in New Orleans’ first six picks and the second edge pass-rusher, joining Washington outside linebacker and second-round pick Hau’oli Kikaha.
The Saints entered Saturday’s final rounds of the draft with four picks – two in the fifth round and one each in the sixth and seventh.
