TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -Dan Williams says the fact that he didn’t go high in the NFL draft is “a blessing in disguise.”
The beaming defensive tackle was at Arizona Cardinals headquarters on Friday less than 24 hours after he was selected. The 6-foot-3, 327-pound lineman from Tennessee comes to a team that has an immediate need at nose tackle.
Williams says he wants to be a starter but knows he has to earn the spot. He repeated that he is good at stopping the run but needs to work on his pass rush.
Williams says he got a phone call from Cardinals Pro Bowl defensive tackle Darnell Dockett welcoming him to the team but warning him that he will have to put in maximum effort for the two-time defending NFC West champions.
