ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -The Washington Redskins have selected Oklahoma tackle Trent Williams with the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Williams on Thursday became the first offensive lineman selected by the Redskins in the top two rounds of the draft in a decade. He now will be the cornerstone as the team attempts to rebuild a line beset by injuries and lack of depth in recent seasons.
Williams is the first player drafted under the new Redskins regime of coach Mike Shanahan and general manager Bruce Allen.
The last offensive lineman drafted in the high rounds by the Redskins was tackle Chris Samuels, the No. 3 overall selection in 2000. Samuels went to six Pro Bowls and retired at the end of the season with a neck injury.
