JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected California defensive tackle Tyson Alualu with the 10th pick in the NFL draft, a surprising move for a franchise that desperately needed a big-name player to boost sagging ticket sales.
Alualu, a 6-foot-2, 295-pound Hawaiian, should give the Jaguars depth behind starters John Henderson and Terrance Knighton. He also could allow the team to trade Henderson, who is entering his ninth season and whose production has dipped.
The Jaguars blacked out nine of 10 home games last season and could have used some star power to sell season tickets and avoid more television blackouts. But Clemson running back C.J. Spiller went to Buffalo with the ninth pick, leaving Jacksonville to take a chance on Alualu.
