ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) -A man who played on the New York Giants’ 1986 Super Bowl championship team was convicted Tuesday of theft in the sale of a Mercedes-Benz.
Damian Johnson, 46, an offensive lineman for the Giants from 1986 to 1989, was found guilty in Union County Superior Court. Prosecutors say he sold the car in 2000 for $27,000 but never delivered the title to his friend. The car had been leased to Johnson’s wife, and the leasing company reported it stolen. The buyer was arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen car.
Johnson, 46, of Bridgeton faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
