LOS ANGELES (AP) – A financial analysis projects that a proposed NFL stadium in Carson, California, would need two teams to call it home to be a reliable money-maker for the city.
The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders are planning a shared, $1.7 billion stadium in Carson if both teams fail to get new stadiums in their current hometowns.
Consultant AECOM estimates that with two teams, a net fiscal gain is projected for Carson’s budget in each of 40 years.
However, the report conducted for Carson finds that if only one team plays in the stadium, the city budget faces ”annual … losses” in most of the first 30 years.
Chargers attorney Mark Fabiani calls the calculations flawed.
The report was released in advance of a City Council meeting Tuesday on the stadium.
