RENTON, Wash. (AP) - Antoine Winfield is officially a member of the Seattle Seahawks after the team formally announced a one-year deal with the former All-Pro cornerback.
The Seahawks announced the deal with Winfield on Wednesday. Winfield reached agreement on a deal with the Seahawks late last week.
Winfield joins one of the most talented defensive backfields in the NFL, likely as an extra cornerback to play in the slot. The secondary features two All-Pros in cornerback Richard Sherman and safety Earl Thomas and past Pro Bowl selections Brandon Browner and Kam Chancellor.
Seattle general manager John Schneider says Winfield's agent was aggressive in reaching out to the Seahawks. While Winfield doesn't fit the mold of the larger cornerbacks Seattle looks for, Schneider is confident Winfield will fit the Seahawks' needs.
