FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -Atlanta Falcons linebacker Michael Boley signed a contract tender from the team, taking him off free agent market.
The Falcons had placed a first-round tender on Boley at the start of free agency, meaning Boley could seek offers from other teams but Atlanta would have gotten a first-round pick in this month’s draft if it refused to match any deal.
On Wednesday, Boley signed the tender offer, terms of which were not immediately available.
Boley, a fifth-round pick in 2005, has developed into one of the team’s most reliable defenders. Last season, he had a career-best 110 tackles, including three sacks. He also forced three fumbles, had two interceptions and broke up seven passes.
With the rebuilding Falcons cutting ties to fan favorites such as DeAngelo Hall, Alge Crumpler and Warrick Dunn, keeping Boley became a priority.
