CLEVELAND (AP) -Cleveland Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers is asking a judge either to charge him with trying to carry a loaded gun onto a plane or to release him from jail.
Attorney Patrick D’Angelo filed a petition Friday on Rogers’ behalf ahead of a hearing scheduled this afternoon in Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Common Pleas Court.
Rogers was arrested Thursday at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Authorities say a .45-caliber handgun was spotted in his luggage at a security checkpoint.
The defense fears he will be held without charges over the weekend because the prosecutor’s office is closed in observance of Easter.
He is being held without bond after being booked on allegations of carrying a concealed weapon, a third-degree felony.
