PONTAIC, Mich. (AP) -The Silverdome’s new owners say they plan to host six to eight events this year in the stadium that has been quiet since the Detroit Lions left eight years ago.
Triple Investment Group LLC announced Thursday a monster truck and motorsports show on April 17 will be its first event in the 35-year-old venue in suburban Detroit. The Green Soccer Bowl featuring World Cup-bound Ghana and Nigeria will follow in May.
The Toronto-based company bought the 80,000-plus seat facility for $583,000 last year at an auction.
The Lions went back to downtown Detroit in 2002 and the Pistons moved to The Palace of Auburn Hills in 1988.
The Silverdome also has hosted Pope John Paul II, Elvis Presley and WrestleMania III.
