NEW YORK (AP) – A person familiar with the deal says the New York Jets have re-signed linebacker David Harris to a three-year, $21 million contract.
The deal Friday for Harris includes $15 million guaranteed through the first two years, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the move.
Harris, 31, has been a leader on the Jets’ defense since he was drafted in the second round out of Michigan in 2007. He has more than 1,000 career tackles in his eight seasons, and relayed the defensive signals for former coach Rex Ryan’s defense.
Harris was expected to be a highly sought free agent – particularly by Ryan’s Bills – if he hadn’t been re-signed by New York.
