JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed free agent offensive lineman Maurice Williams on Thursday, three days after releasing six-year starter Chris Naeole.
Williams likely will compete with backup Dennis Norman and second-year player Uche Nwaneri for a starting guard spot.
A second-round draft pick in 2001, Williams has spent his entire career in Jacksonville. He was the team’s starting right tackle for six years, then was demoted to a backup role last season after the Jaguars signed free agent Tony Pashos.
Williams has started 95 games in Jacksonville, including 10 last season. He started two games at left tackle and the final eight in place of Naeole at right guard.
