CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – The Carolina Panthers have found a potential boost for the NFL’s worst offense by coming to terms with four-time Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey on a one-year deal.
The 30-year-old Shockey, who was released by New Orleans last week, had also received interest from the Miami Dolphins. He signed the contract just before the collective bargaining agreement was to expire.
Shockey will be reunited in Carolina with offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, who was his position coach at the University of Miami.
New coach Ron Rivera had said getting a pass-catching tight end was a priority.
Shockey wrote on his Facebook page that it’s a “great opportunity for me.”
