WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Redskins have released Jason Taylor, one year after signing the former NFL defensive player of the year.
The 34-year-old Taylor would have earned about $8 million this season and missed three games last year due to injuries.
He declined the Redskins’ request to add a clause to his contract requiring him to participate in 25 of 39 days in the team’s offseason workout program. His 120.5 career sacks are the most among active NFL players. But he had just 3.5 last season.
Redskins head coach Jim Zorn said Monday that Taylor “played hurt, but still gave his best effort to be prepared and play hard every week.”
Taylor spent his first 11 seasons with Miami and was acquired in a trade from the Dolphins on July 20, 2008.
