RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The agent for Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Brandon Mebane says the team has placed an original round tender on the restricted free agent, but the sides hope to get a long-term deal worked out.
Chuck Price, agent for Mebane, says the two sides are each working toward a multiyear deal but are running up against the possible expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement later this week.
The team did not respond to messages about the restricted designation placed on Mebane, a third-round pick by the Seahawks in 2006. Seattle would receive a third-round pick if Mebane signed with another team.
But Price says Mebane wants to stay in Seattle and is willing to bypass possible free agency to have the security of being with the Seahawks.
