WASHINGTON (AP) – The agent for Washington Redskins kick returner Brandon Banks says the player was stabbed while coming to the aid of a longtime friend, who was critically injured.
Agent James Gould says in a statement released Saturday afternoon that Banks suffered a surface knife wound to his side that required stitches. He says Banks is expected to be released Sunday from a local hospital.
Gould says Banks’ unidentified friend underwent surgery for a stab wound.
The altercation occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday outside a nightclub in downtown Washington. Gould says Banks’ friend was attacked and that Banks tried to help him. He says Banks was not implicated in any wrongdoing.
The suspect, 24-year-old Jason Shorter of Lanham, Md., was arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill.
