MIAMI (AP) -For Anthony Hargrove, going out on the town during Super Bowl week means an afternoon trip to his old drug and alcohol recovery clinic.
The Saints’ defensive lineman watched last season’s Super Bowl at the Transitions Recovery Program in North Miami Beach. One year later, he is sober and a key member of New Orleans’ defense.
Hargrove joined the Saints last spring after serving a year’s suspension for multiple violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He has stayed clean since and had a productive year, finishing third on the Saints in sacks.
He plans to lay low in his hotel room most of the week, but wanted to speak with recovering substance abusers at the clinic about his recent successes, hoping to inspire them.
