PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AP) -The Air Force has its own aerial game plan for Super Bowl Sunday, with fighters patrolling over Tampa, Fla., and Raymond James Stadium.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command said Thursday that Air Force pilots will enforce temporary flight restrictions over the Tampa area during Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals.
Authorities said the patrols aren’t in response to a specific threat and are routine for big events. Immigration and Customs Enforcement planes will also be on patrol.
Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander of U.S. Central Command, will do the ceremonial coin toss. The Air Force Thunderbirds will do a pregame fly-over and a Special Operations Command color guard will present the flag for the national anthem.
