PITTSBURGH (AP) – A teary-eyed Jason Taylor says he isn’t sure if he might have played for the last time after the New York Jets’ 24-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC championship game.
Taylor signed a two-year contract with the Jets in April, but could retire after 14 NFL seasons. He says “we’ll see” if coach Rex Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum “even want me back.”
The 36-year-old Taylor, the NFL’s active career sacks leader, says he didn’t do enough to help the Jets and called Sunday’s loss to the Steelers the “toughest” he has ever been a part of.
He has never played in a Super Bowl and says a trip to Dallas with the Jets was so close, “you could smell it, you could feel it.”
