CLEVELAND (AP) – The Cleveland Browns are expected to name former NFL head coach Dick Jauron their new defensive coordinator.
The 60-year-old Jauron is close to finalizing a contract to join Pat Shurmur’s staff. Jauron spent the past two seasons coaching Philadelphia’s secondary. The well-respected Jauron previously coached in Buffalo and Chicago, posting a 60-82 record.
The team may have an announcement as early as Friday.
Shurmur, hired last week as Cleveland’s fifth coach since 1999, is also looking for an offensive coordinator after Brian Daboll was fired and signed with Miami. Rob Ryan, Cleveland’s defensive coordinator the past two years under Eric Mangini, is now with Dallas.
The Browns also interviewed former Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt to run their defense, but he is close to joining Buffalo.
