IRVING, Texas (AP) -Owner Jerry Jones and coach Wade Phillips have sent the Dallas Cowboys into the offseason with the message that the team is close to reaching its goals.
Several players left the team meeting saying that management wants to keep things the way they are – a clear indication that Jones plans to pick up the team option on Phillips’ contract for next season.
This was the second straight year that Dallas flopped at the finish, this time getting ousted from the playoffs with a 34-3 loss to Minnesota.
But the Cowboys also had a winning record in the final month and won a playoff game, things they had not done since 1996. They also won the division for the second time in three years.
Jones and Phillips did not speak with reporters Monday.
