PITTSBURGH (AP) – It doesn’t matter what seed the Pittsburgh Steelers have entering the playoffs, more often than not, things break their way by the time the AFC championship game swings around.
After dispatching the Baltimore Ravens, 31-24, in the divisional round on Saturday, it appeared the Steelers were headed to New England for a date with the mighty Patriots.
They should have known better.
After all, this is becoming old hat in the Steel City. In fact – thanks to the New York Jets and their 28-21 upset of the Patriots – the Steelers will get to host the title game for the fourth consecutive time that they’ve been a No. 2 seed.
Pretty strange. But, hey, the Steelers aren’t about to complain.
After the win over Baltimore? Sure. Players characteristically were noncommittal about the next opponent. But now that they know it’s New York, and that it’s at Heinz Field? Different story.
