Austin erased the record of 246 yards that Hall of Famer “Bullet” Bob Hayes set against Washington almost 39 years ago.
ING UGLY
Browns QB Derek Anderson went 2 of 17 for a mere 23 yards and an interception to register a 15.1 passer rating in Cleveland’s 6-3 win over Buffalo. The Browns’ two completions are the fewest for a winning team since the Bengals did it in a 31-21 win over Denver in 2000. The Browns managed nine first downs and 193 yards of offense. Their offense failed to score a touchdown for the third time this season, and ninth time in their past 11 games.
EFFECTIVE ELI
Giants QB Eli Manning showed no ill effects of a painful right heel injury in a 44-7 win over Oakland. He threw two scoring passes and led the Giants on touchdown drives on their first four possessions. Manning was 8 of 10 for 173 yards, needing to play less than a half in the rout.
UNLIKELY STAR
Browns punter Dave Zastudil was the unlikely star in a display of offensive ineptitude between Cleveland and Buffalo. He landed seven of nine punts inside the Bills 20. That included his last one, a difficult-to-pick-up roller that Roscoe Parrish muffed, allowing the Browns to take over at the Buffalo 16. Seven plays later, Billy Cundiff hit an 18-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining for a 6-3 win. Zastudil had two punts downed at the Buffalo 1 and another at the 4.
RAMS ROCKED
St. Louis has scored four offensive touchdowns this season, none rushing, allowed at least 35 points in three straight games, and has seven turnovers the past two games while getting outscored 73-10 after its 38-10 loss to the Vikings.
PUNT FOR PANTHERS
Carolina scored the go-ahead touchdown in its 20-17 win over the Redskins after a bizarre fumbled punt gave the Panthers the ball at the Washington 12. Leading 17-12, Washington forced a punt with just over 10 minutes left. Carolina’s Quinton Teal blocked Washington’s Byron Westbrook into returner Antwaan Randle El, which was ruled a legal play because Randle El had moved forward due to the short punt. The ball bounced off Westbrook’s foot and Carolina’s Dante Wesley pounced on the ball. The officials initially awarded the ball to Washington. They then determined the ball hit Westbrook first and gave it to Carolina, a call upheld after Washington challenged. Jonathan Stewart scored a TD two plays later, and the Panthers added the 2-point conversion.

SIDELINED
is third concussion of the season, going down against Atlanta early in the third quarter trying to tackle Michael Turner. Lewis, who sustained two concussions during an 11-day span in the preseason, could be sidelined for a prolonged period. He led with his helmet on the hit Sunday and was face down on the field for several minutes while being examined. He eventually sat up and was helped off the field, appearing dazed. Athletic trainers ran a series of tests on Lewis as he sat on the sideline. Lewis’ first concussion occurred Aug. 18 during a joint practice with Oakland at the Raiders’ wine country training site in Napa when he got hit by a fullback. He suffered another in an exhibition game at Dallas on Aug. 29, when he fell and took a knee to the helmet.
