NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Now that the Saints have ended their reign as Super Bowl champions, they must focus on the sobering reality of a longer offseason devoid of celebrations and full of re-evaluation.
Instead of getting ready for the second round of the playoffs, a stunning 41-36 loss to Seattle on Saturday has the Saints planning exit interviews with players this week. Then coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis must decide the fate of players such as running backs Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas and figure out how to revamp a running game that was injury-plagued and ranked 28th in the NFL.
Bush is entering the final year of a contract paying him more than $11 million next season, while Thomas’ contract is expiring.
