SEATTLE (AP) – Pete Carroll never appears calm about anything. He speaks like he’s stuck in fast-forward and stalks the sideline with youthful energy.
So maybe the Seahawks coach caught himself by surprise with how mellow he was in the minutes after Seattle shocked the rest of football with its stunning upset of the defending Super Bowl champions.
Having already created history by becoming the first division winners in league history with a losing record, the Seahawks validated their spot in the postseason by ousting the Saints.
And they did it in the most unlikely fashion: outscoring Drew Brees and the high-flying Saints.
Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was outstanding, throwing four touchdowns and Marshawn Lynch capped the memorable night with a 67-yard touchdown run to clinch the victory.
