LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -Chicago Bears linebackers coach Hardy Nickerson resigned Tuesday after just one season.
Nickerson, a 16-year NFL veteran, played for Tampa Bay when Bears coach Lovie Smith was in charge of the Buccaneers’ linebackers. Smith said last week he hoped his entire coaching staff would return intact, despite the Bears’ disappointing 7-9 season.
“Hardy did a good job for us,” Smith told the team’s Web site. “He expressed how difficult this decision was, but he felt it was best for him and his family at this time. I certainly understand his decision and wish him and his family the best.”
