CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson is unhappy with the team’s quarterback play and wants a major upgrade on offense, but believes that can still be accomplished with a defensive-minded head coach.
Richardson told The Associated Press on Friday night the team’s focus on current defensive coordinators to replace John Fox won’t curtail improvement on offense. Richardson says the Panthers are placing a “very high priority” on bringing in a quality offensive coaching staff.
Richardson says it appears “the play of our quarterbacks has deteriorated over the last few years.”
The Panthers saw their chances of getting Stanford’s Andrew Luck with the No. 1 overall pick squashed when the potential franchise quarterback announced he was staying in school.
