SAN DIEGO (AP) -The San Diego Chargers are holding out five starters from their meaningless game against the Washington Redskins.
Wide receiver Vincent Jackson (Achilles’ tendon) hoped to play and was listed as questionable, giving him a 50-50 chance of playing, but is one of the Chargers’ inactives. Outside linebacker Shawne Merriman (foot), fullback Jacob Hester (shoulder) and safety Eric Weddle (knee) are held out, as expected, to let their injuries heal.
Defensive end Jacques Cesaire (elbow), another player listed as questionable, also is inactive.
The Chargers have clinched the AFC’s No. 2 playoff seed and a first-round bye.
Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, sidelined all week with a hip injury, is inactive for the Redskins.
