New York Giants center Rich Seubert was carted off the field in the first quarter of the team’s 17-14 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday with a dislocated right kneecap.
Seubert had moved from left guard to center for the game to replace Pro Bowler Shaun O’Hara, out with a left Achilles’ tendon injury.
Seubert was injured on the Giants’ seventh play from scrimmage. Washington defensive lineman Anthony Bryant landed on him, and Seubert began waving to the sideline for help before the play was over.
Kevin Boothe took over for Seubert at center. It was the first time Boothe played center in the NFL.
New York missed the playoffs despite a 10-6 record when Green Bay beat Chicago 10-3.
Some playoff-bound quarterbacks either sat out Sunday’s games (Michael Vick) or did not finish (Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger and Mark Sanchez) to rest up for the postseason, which starts next weekend.
In other injury news, Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, running back Chris Ivory and safety Malcolm Jenkins were injured in New Orleans’ 23-13 loss to Tampa Bay.
Graham hurt his left ankle making a touchdown catch in the first quarter. The Saints already were playing without tight ends Jeremy Shockey (groin) and David Thomas (right knee).
The Saints also played most of the game without starting free safety Malcolm Jenkins and leading rusher Chris Ivory. Jenkins hurt his right knee on the first defensive series while tackling LeGarrette Blount along the sideline. Ivory injured his left foot in the first half.
Bucs receiver Maurice Stovall left the game with a groin injury and cornerback Elbert Mack had what team officials termed a “head injury” after a hard collision during kickoff coverage.
Ravens cornerback Josh Wilson and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe left in the first half of Baltimore’s 13-7 win over Cincinnati with shoulder injuries. The Ravens face the Chiefs in the playoffs next Sunday.
Steelers rookie center Maurkice Pouncey suffered a neck stinger in Pittsburgh’s 41-9 win over Cleveland. Starting left cornerback Bryant McFadden injured his groin and did not return. The Steelers have a first-round bye and are off until Saturday, Jan. 15.
