A rare meeting between two non-conference foes will occur on Sunday when the New York Jets host the Carolina Panthers at 1:00PM ET on Sunday.

In Week 11, the Panthers failed to cover as 3.5-point home favorites in a 24-17 loss to the Dolphins. The combined score went under the posted total of 42 points, as Steve Smith caught seven passes for 87 yards and a touchdown.

The Jets also suffered defeat in Week 11 as the Patriots knocked them off, 31-14. The Jets failed to cover as 11-point underdogs and the combined score pushed the 45-point total. Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled again, as he threw for just 136 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions. Jerricho Cotchery finished with three receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Jets 3-point home favorites over the Panthers in Week 12. The over/under total for this game has been set at 41.5 points.

This looks like a small trap game given how bad the Jets have played of late, which is why we’re not biting on the Panthers. Considering Carolina has to hit the road and face an unfamiliar opponent in unfamiliar territory, we like the home favorites in this matchup.

The Jets need to trust their running game to pick up chucks of yards against a Carolina run defense that is allowing 111.5 yards per game. But New York needs to load up against the run as well, especially considering that its allowing 130.7 yards per game on the ground and the Panthers are racking up 163.5 YPG.

Rex Ryan would be wise to take the game out of Sanchez’s hands and place the pressure on Thomas Jones and the running game. The Jets pass protection hasn’t been good of late, so making Sanchez attempt a plethora of passes just doesn’t make sense. That said, the Jets’ defense needs to step up and put Sanchez and the offense in good situations.

Take the Jets –3 and the under 41.5 in this game. Both teams will try to establish the run and neither has that home run ability offensively.
