MIAMI, FL (TheSpread) – Fresh off their first round win in a long, long time, the Detroit Lions hit the road again this Sunday when they take on the struggling Miami Dolphins at 1:00PM ET. Continue reading for picks, odds and more on this Week 16 contest.
According to current NFL Week 16 odds and oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, the Dolphins are 3.5-point favorites over the Lions this Sunday. The over/under total for this game is currently 41.5 points.
The Lions improved to 4-10 last week with their victory over the Bucs and are now a stellar 10-4 against the spread this season. They’re 1-6 on the road this year but have covered in four of their seven games according to latest NFL trends.
The Dolphins dropped to 7-7 on the year with their loss to the Bills last week at home. They’re now 1-6 at home this year and have failed to cover in five of those seven games. They are 8-6 overall against the spread this season, however.
NFL Week 16 Free Pick:
The Dolphins have been a disaster at home this year but that has to turn around at some point (or so one would think). But because of the inconsistent play of quarterback Chad Henne and the fact that Miami has struggled running the ball of late, we can’t trust a side play here. That’s why we believe there is more value in the total. The over is 8-2-1 in the Lions’ last 11 games overall and 3-1-1 in their last five road games. The over is also 6-2-1 in Detroit’s last nine games as an underdog and 12-5-1 in its last 18 games in December. Shaun Hill is expected to start for the Lions this week, which could give them a boost offensively. They’re more apt to throw the ball with him at quarterback than they were with Drew Stanton, who has been decent as a fill in (he has won two games for them the past two weeks). Our pick is the over 41.5.
