HOUSTON, TX (ATS CONSULTANTS) – The Texans have to slow down Adrian Peterson and the Vikings on Sunday if they hope to lock up the top seed in the AFC. Can they do it?

NFL Odds: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Houston is the clear favorite at home, as the Texans have odds of -9.5 points against the Vikings. The over/under total has been set at 43.5 points. Houston is 12-2 on the season, 6-1 at home and 9-5 against the spread. Minnesota is 8-6 on the season, 2-5 on the road and 6-7-1 against the spread.

Line Movement: Opening odds had the Texans favored by 9.5 points as well. The spread dipped to 9 points during the week, but closed back at its opening of Houston -9.5. The over/under total opened at 44 points. The total dropped as low as 43 points and hit a high of 45 before closing at 43.5 points.

NFL Week 16 Free Pick: Take the Texans. According to latest NFL trends, Houston is 15-6 ATS last 21 as a favorite. Minnesota is 2-10 ATS last 12 away off a win. Houston can clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win against a Minnesota team that doesn’t control their own destiny in the NFC. Minnesota hopes to win by running the ball with the dynamic Adrian Peterson and defending. The problem is that they go up against a very good running defense led by DL J.J. Watt, LB Connor Barwin and DL Antonio Smith, allowing just 93.4 yds per game on the ground. The Texans have won seven of their last eight and the New England loss on the road (42-14) still stings. Minnesota did beat St. Louis last week, but they are just 2-5 on the road and lost their previous two to Green Bay by 9 and Chicago by 17.
