Chargers vs. Jets Odds
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) – The Jets will have a new QB under center on Sunday when they host the Chargers at 1PM ET on CBS.
SAN DIEGO: The Chargers suffered a 31-7 loss at home to Carolina last week after beating the Steelers on the road, 34-24, a week prior. San Diego has now lost five of their last six games to see their season turn into a complete disappointment. Last Sunday’s loss may have been the final straw in the Norv Turner era with San Diego. The Chargers had just 164 yards of offense against a poor Carolina defense and the Chargers allowed 372 total yards to Carolina’s offense. Philip Rivers went just 16 of 23 passing for 121 yards with one touchdown. It was Rivers’ lowest passing total of the season and the third time he had been held under 200 yards this year. Rivers has just 3,290 yards on the season.
NEW YORK: The Jets were officially eliminated from playoff contention last week with a 14-10 loss to the Titans on the road. New York had won three of their last four games prior to the loss to the Titans, but the offense had been struggling for a while. New York has not scored 20 points in each of their last four games and in six of their last seven. In the loss to the Titans, Mark Sanchez threw four interceptions and fumbled a snap late that severely cost the Jets a chance to win. The Jets have benched Sanchez in favor of Greg McElroy, who has appeared in just one game this season, completing 5 of 7 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. The Jets passed up Tim Tebow for the starting spot. Tebow has thrown just 8 pass attempts on the season after the Jets traded for him in the offseason.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Jets are the favorite at home, as they have odds of -1 point against the Chargers. The over/under total has been set at 40.5 points. New York is 6-8 on the season, 3-4 at home and 7-7 against the spread. San Diego is 5-9 overall, 3-4 on the road and 6-8 against the spread.
TRENDS: The Chargers are just 1-6 against the spread in their last 7 meetings with the Jets, but the underdog has covered in 4 of the last 5 games in this series. These two teams have also combined to hit the over in 5 of their last 7 meetings.
