Bengals vs. Steelers Week 16 Odds
PITTSBURGH, PA (The Spread) – In what amounts to an elimination game in the AFC North, the Steelers will host the Bengals on Sunday in the one of the biggest matchups of Week 16.
CINCINNATI: Following their 20-19 collapse versus the Cowboys two weeks ago, the Bengals bounced back with a 34-13 win over the Eagles last Thursday night. Andy Dalton completed 13-of-27 passes for 127 yards with one touchdown pass to A.J. Green (6 catches, 57 yards, 1 TD), and also rushed eight times for 18 yards and a score. Ben Jarvus Green-Ellis added 106 yards on 25 carries with one touchdown, while Jermaine Greshman led the team in receiving yards with 63. Wallace Gilberry also returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown as the Bengals cruised to an easy victory. The win lifted Cincinnati into sole possession of second place in the AFC North at 8-6 and it was the fifth time in six games that the Bengals covered the spread. A win over the Steelers on Sunday would put the Bengals one step closer to securing one of the final two wild card spots in the AFC.
PITTSBURGH: With their 27-24 loss to the Cowboys in Week 15, the Steelers have now lost two straight and four of their last five games. Ben Roethlisberger was stellar in the loss, completing 24-of-40 passes for 339 yards with two touchdowns but his lone interception was a backbreaker. Dallas cornerback Brandon Carr jumped the route and intercepted Roethlisberger in overtime, setting up a game-winning Dan Bailey field goal. Roethlisberger got very little help from his running game as Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman combined for just 52 total rushing yards, while Mike Wallace caught four passes for 95 yards and Heath Miller hauled in seven passes for 92 yards and a touchdown. The loss dropped Pittsburgh’s record to 7-7 on the year and 5-8-1 against the spread as they failed to cover as a 1-point road underdog. They remain two games back of the Ravens and one game back of the Bengals in the ultra-competitive AFC North.
ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Steelers are 4-point favorites versus the Bengals while the over/under total is currently sitting at 43 points. Cincinnati enters the week with an 8-6 record overall and is 5-2 on the road, while Pittsburgh is 7-7 overall and 4-2 at home.
TRENDS: The favorite is 5-0 against the spread in the last five meetings between these two teams while the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Pittsburgh. The road team, meanwhile, is 15-6-1 against the spread in the last 22 meetings between these two teams, while the Bengals are 7-19-1 against the spread in their last 27 games versus the Steelers. Cincinnati is also 1-4 against the number in its last five trips to Pittsburgh.
