SAN DIEGO, CA (TheSpread) – Both the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers can ill afford to suffer another loss, which makes their matchup on the NFL Network this Thursday night intriguing. Continue reading for picks, odds and more on this NFL matchup.
According to Week 15 NFL odds and oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, the Chargers are 9-point favorites against the 49ers on Thursday night. The over/under total for this game is currently 44.5 points.
The 49ers improved to 5-8 last Sunday when they waxed the Seahawks at home, and are now 5-8 against the spread according to latest NFL trends. They’re 1-5 on the road this year, however, and have failed to cover in four of their six games away from Candlestick Park.
The Chargers also won last week (a 31-0 beat down of the Matt Cassel-less Chiefs) and are now 7-6 overall. They’ve covered in seven of their 13 games this year, which includes a 5-2 record at Qualcomm Stadium.
NFL Network Thursday Night Free Pick:
These two teams have a lot in common. They’re both coming off wins, they’re both fighting for a playoff spot in their respective conference and neither can afford to lose another game. But that’s where the similarities stop. The 49ers have yet to beat a team with a winning record while the Bolts crushed the Colts three weeks ago and nearly beat the Patriots earlier this season. These teams couldn’t be farther apart in statistical edge and even though the Chargers are dealing with a slew of injuries, Philip Rivers continues to play at a MVP level. Alex Smith looked good in his return to action last week, but that was against a bad Seattle team at home. Let’s see how he fairs against one of the top ranked defenses in the league on the road tonight. Our pick is the Chargers –9.
