ATLANTA: The Falcons finally put some demons to rest last Thursday night by beating the Saints 23-13 in Atlanta. While Matt Ryan and the offense struggled for most of the game, the defense intercepted Drew Brees five times in the victory. Ryan finished 18-of-33 for 165 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions, while Michael Turner rushed 12 times for 83 yards with one score. Tony Gonzalez was Atlanta’s leading receiver, catching four passes for 58 yards with one touchdown, while Julio Jones caught five passes for just 58 yards. The victory, coupled with a Tampa Bay loss to Denver on Sunday, allowed the Falcons to improve to 11-1 and secure the NFC South Division crown. They’ll now take aim on winning the top seed in the NFC.

CAROLINA: The Panthers lost for the third time in four games last Sunday when they fell 27-21 to the Chiefs in Kansas City. Carolina wasted a great effort by Cam Newton, who completed 15-of-27 passes for 232 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also rushed seven times for 78 yards, which led all Carolina running backs. Meanwhile, Steve Smith caught five passes for 120 yards with one touchdown, while tight end Greg Olsen caught one pass for 47 yards and a score. The loss dropped Carolina to 3-9 on the year and 5-7 against the spread as they failed to cover as a 5.5-point favorite. With their playoff hopes long dashed, the Panthers will look to notch a signature win on Sunday by beating their division rivals, the Falcons.

ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Falcons are 3.5-point favorites versus the Panthers, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 47.5 points. Atlanta is 11-1 overall and 5-1 on the road, while Carolina is 3-9 overall and 1-5 at home this season.

TRENDS: The over is 5-1-2 in the last eight meetings between these two teams, but the under is 12-4-1 in the last 17 meetings between these two teams in Carolina. The Falcons are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games versus the Panthers.
