Opening odds had New England favored by 7 points and climbed up to 7.5 before dropping back to 6.5 to close. The over/under opened at 51 and moved up to 51.5 before dropping back to 50.5.
New England has won its last two games, scoring at least 31 points in both contests. The offense has been tough to handle this year as Tom Brady has thrown for 2,362 yards and 19 touchdowns this season with just four interceptions. The Patriots rank first in the NFL in scoring at 28.9 points per game. The New England defense has been shaky as they are giving up 24.2 points and 398.4 yards per game, including just under 300 passing yards per game.
The Lions have lost three straight coming into Thursday’s game. The team is again playing with backup quarterback Shaun Hill as Matthew Stafford is dealing with another shoulder injury. Hill has thrown for 1,921 yards and 12 touchdowns on the year as the Lions average 23.4 points and 336.4 yards per game. On defense, the Lions are giving up 23.7 points and 344.2 yards per game. The Lions have struggled more against the run, allowing 130.6 yards per game on the ground.
In terms of injuries, New England guard Stephen Neal is questionable with a shoulder injury while Detroit running back Jahvid Best is doubtful with a toe injury, which will force Maurice Morris into the starting lineup.
