Ravens vs. Panthers Odds
The Carolina Panthers are turning to Brian St. Pierre to help them beat the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Will it work?
The Ravens are 6-3 this season and 2-3 on the road while the Panthers are 1-8 overall and 1-4 at home. Trends show that the Ravens are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games following a failed cover while the Panthers are 1-5 ATS in their last six games on grass.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have made the Ravens a 10.5-point favorite on the road against the Panthers. The over/under has been set at 37. (View Matchup).
Opening odds had Baltimore favored by 8.5 points but with the Carolina issues at quarterback, the point spread has increased up to 10.5. The over/under total opened at 37 and was up to 37.5 during the week before dropping back to 37.
With Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen both injured, the Panthers signed St. Pierre to play on Sunday over rookie Tony Pike. St. Pierre played for a short time with the Cardinals this season but hadn’t played since 2004 prior to that. The Panthers have now lost three straight, mostly due to their offensive struggles. The Panthers rank last in the NFL in scoring offense at 11.6 points per game, which is nearly 6 points less than the nearest team. The Panthers average just 250.6 yards per game. The defense hasn’t been much better, giving up 23.9 points per game, including 131.6 rushing yards per game.
Baltimore is coming off a 26-21 loss to Atlanta last week. That ended a two-game winning streak for the Ravens. The Ravens have been inconsistent on offense, averaging 21.8 points and 344.9 yards per game this season. On defense, the Ravens are amongst the best in the NFL. They are giving up just 18.3 points and 316.4 yards per game. The rushing defense is giving up less than 100 yards per game. The defense has been led by captain Ray Lewis, who has 73 tackles and two sacks while Haloti Ngata has 46 tackles and five sacks.
In terms of injuries, Carolina running back DeAngelo Williams has been put on IR due to a foot injury while backup running back Jonathan Stewart is out with a concussion. Baltimore tight end Todd Heap is questionable for Sunday’s game with a back injury.
Over 26,700 public bets have been placed on this game and Baltimore is getting 81% of the wagers at -10.5 against Carolina.
