NFL Week 9 Recap
The Jets and Vikings pulled off impressive fourth quarter comebacks on Sunday, but both teams failed to cover. Who else failed to cover in Week 9 and which teams were able to cover the number? Check out our NFL Scores Week 9 – Who Covered, Who Didn’t Cover Report.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com made the Jets a 5.5-point favorite, but it was the Lions who once again covered (their seventh cover this season). Thanks to Mark Sanchez and a couple of Nick Folk field goals, New York still prevailed with a 23-20 win in overtime.
The Falcons held on to beat the Bucs 27-21, but failed to cover as a 10-point home favorite. The Falcons held a 27-14 lead for all of 10 seconds late in the third quarter before Tampa Bay returned a kickoff for a touchdown. The two teams were held scoreless in the fourth quarter and that was all she wrote.
The Dolphins failed to win on the road for the first time this season on Sunday, as the Ravens beat them, 26-10. Baltimore was a 5-point favorite and had the game pretty much in hand from halftime on, as its defense held Miami scoreless in the second half.
The shock of the day came in Cleveland, as the Browns crushed the Patriots 34-14 as a 4-point underdog. The Browns took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and while New England cut the lead to 10-7 in the second quarter, Cleveland rolled from that point on.
The Vikings scored two touchdowns with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to tie the Cardinals 24-all at the end of regulation. Then Minnesota won the game on a Ryan Longwell 35-yard field goal in overtime to beat Arizona, 27-24. The Vikings, however, failed to cover as a 7-point favorite.
The Bears needed a fourth quarter touchdown and a two-point conversion to beat the Bills and produce a push as a 3-point favorite. The combined score went under the posted total of 41.5 points as Jay Cutler threw for 188 yards.
The Chargers picked up their first road win of the season on Sunday when they beat the Texans 29-23. The game went back-and-forth for awhile, but San Diego scored eight points in the fourth quarter to win and cover as a 3-point favorite. Philip Rivers threw for 295 points in the win.
The Saints look like they’re starting to figure things out. They beat the Panthers 34-3 in Carolina to cover as a 5.5-point favorite and kept pace with the Falcons in the NFC South. It was New Orleans’ second straight win.
The Seahawks forgot to show up in Seattle on Sunday, as the Giants absolutely hammered them 41-7. The game was over from the start as New York scored 21 points in the first quarter and 35 in the first half to roll as a 7-point favorite.
With Michael Vick back under center, the Eagles picked up a huge win over the Colts on Sunday although they failed to cover as a 3-point favorite. The combined score (26-24) went over the posted total of 46.5 points.
The Chiefs could have earned a huge road victory against a divisional opponent on Sunday, but the Raiders tied the game with a field goal with under 10 seconds in the fourth quarter and then won the game in overtime, 23-20. Oakland covered as a 1-point underdog after the line moved from Raiders -2 earlier this week.
The Packers picked up a free win on Sunday Night Football against the hapless, heartless, unmotivated Cowboys. Green Bay scored 28 points in the second quarter and crushed Dallas, 45-7 as a seven point favorite.
