Lions vs Seahawks Pick
The Seattle Seahawks are looking to get a much-needed win on Sunday when they host the lowly Detroit Lions at 4:05PM ET.
The Lions were defeated by the Rams, 17-10 in Week 8. Matthew Stafford threw for just 168 yards with an interception for Detroit, while Kevin Smith rushed for 45 yards on 16 carries the Lions failed to cover as 3-point favorites.
The Seahawks lost to the Cowboys 38-17 last Sunday as a 10-point underdog. Matt Hasselbeck threw for 249 yards with two touchdowns for Seattle, while Nate Burleson hauled in six passes for 89 yards.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Seahawks 11-point favorites over the Lions in Week 9. The over/under total for this game has been set at 42 points.
Both teams are just 2-5 against the spread this season, although Detroit is 6-3 against the spread in its last nine games on the road. Seattle is 4-2 against the number in its last six games at home.
The last time the Lions traveled to Seattle, they didn’t fare well in a 35-14 loss as 10-point underdogs in 2003. We think it’ll be a similar outcome today, as the Seahawks need a win in a worse way and usually play well at home. The Lions also have injury issues on both sides of the ball and Stafford struggled last week after showing some promise early on.
Hasselbeck should have a solid day in the passing game against a defense that allows over 250 a game and 29.3 points per game. Seattle doesn’t have anything resembling a rushing game, but should gain enough ground to keep the chains moving.
Our free pick for this game is Seattle –11 and our prediction for the total is over. The total has gone over in seven of Detroit’s last eight games on the road and the Seahawks scored 41 points on their own in their second to last home game. With the total sitting at 42, we like the combined score to sail over.
Our NFL Week 9 Free Pick for this matchup is: SEATTLE SEAHAWKS -11 and OVER 42.
